Mechanism of action

When contact with weeds, imazapyr and imazamox are rapidly absorbed through the leaves and also penetrate the plant through the roots. These active substances move through the xylem and phloem to plant tissue, where they act as inhibitors of the acetolactate synthase enzyme (ALS).

This enzyme is only found among plants and bacteria, not animals. ALS catalyzes the biosynthesis of essential amino acids: valine, leucine and isoleucine
